Growth mindset requires one to not only believe in the power of YET, but also to believe that the ability to learn something new can change with effort. Having a growth mindset requires one to posess GRIT! According to Angela Lee Duckworth, grit is where passion and perseverence intersect. It is my belief that creating a classroom culture where students can "fail forward" truly has the potential to help students grow. However, if we are preocupied with outcome vs. process, we can send the wrong message. We can give our students the impression that we are not impressed with small victories or setbacks, but rather expect perfection. Expecting this can inhibit a student's desire to try something new or to try something they will not perfect at first. As teachers. we have the power to create a learning environment that encourages a growth mindset. I believe it is in our student's best interest to do so!
