Engaging in personalized and collaborative professional learning with our peers can provide a powerful impact on our practice.
For the last several years I have planned a Makerspace tour across our district that allows librarians to visit each other’s libraries and learn ways to manage the space, how to get started, and incorporate the use of the Makerspace into literacy instruction. At the end of each year, we survey librarians about the professional learning opportunities that they received throughout the year and this scores among the highest in regards to having the most impact on their daily practice. They have time to make connections with peers, visit the sites, and reflect on ways to incorporate what they learned into their own spaces. As a result of the day, they create professional learning networks with librarians throughout the district and gain inspiration that transforms their practice. I plan to take this idea and adapt it to our virtual learning environments. My proposal is that we take our traditional professional learning and capitalize on the idea of Pineapple Professional Learning. Now that we are all working in a virtual environment, we can share a link to our virtual environments and welcome colleagues to our classrooms. |
